Heidi Allen has said that Change UK, the Tiggers, err, whatever they call themselves, might merge with the LibDems. Which seems suitable enough, that is where political parties go to die:
Heidi Allen says Change UK could merge with Lib Dems
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, she said: “I would like us to be in the same vehicle.” Asked if she meant the same party, Allen replied: “Yeah, probably, I don’t know. This partisan thing completely passes me by and when I look across Europe, they seem to do pretty well with coalitions. “I don’t know what the format will be, but will we be singing from the same hymn sheet? I would hope as a collective, let’s call us a collective, somewhere in the middle with other likeminded colleagues. I don’t think it’s sensible to be too prescriptive at the moment.” Allen said to be a “real insurgent force”, the alliance needed to be “brand new” rather than a larger Liberal Democrat party.
They tried that with the SDP joining up with the Liberals and it didn’t work very well. And the peeps who just got no seats at all don’t have much power in the negotiations with the peeps who just got 18.
Still, this does mean that Sir Vince Cable is seen as Salvator Sedes*. Which isn’t how his more usual party members see him in the results from the last general election now, is it?
*Cod Latin and bad such but, you get the meaning.
