Imagine Being So Incompetent That HUD Is A Step Up

It’s impossible to imagine a grouping that is even worse at managing property and buildings than the Department of Housing and Urban Development. For goodness’ sake, HUD is famed for the building of vertical slums. Now marvel at New York City. For the NYCHA seems to have managed this impossible task:

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), the largest public housing authority in North America, was created in 1935 to provide affordable housing for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers. More than 400,000 New Yorkers reside in NYCHA’s 326 public housing developments across the City’s five boroughs.

Near half a million people are stuck in this system:

Chronic mismanagement by New York City’s Public Housing Authority have left hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers’ apartments — already impacted by toxic lead paint — to become overrun by mold and rodents. Conditions were so bad, a federal judge last week suggested HUD take over NYCHA’s operations.

No, really, there’s someone worse than HUD at housing. It’s like finding out there’s someone still further removed from economic reality than Ms. Ocasio Cortez. Theoretically possible I suppose but it would be a wonder to behold.
