No Stercore Sherlock – Drugs Won’t Run Out At Brexit

The idea that the moment after Brexit the country’s stock of drugs – pharma ones rather than interesting – would cease to be topped up was always more than a little delusional. We don’t gain access to insulin, aspirin and medicinal heroin because of the kindness nor activity of Jean Claude Juncker after all. It’s done by people who know what they’re doing.

So, that we escape J-C’s beery embrace doesn’t mean that we thus become drugless. Women are not reduced to screaming through the pain of their parturition because Martin Selmayer hasn’t authorised the delivery of the gas. The basic contention that we and they would be was always a nonsense. And so it is:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]Medicines will not run out in a no deal Brexit, royal college says[/perfectpullquote]

Quite so:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] A royal college has said that drug supplies are “very largely secured” for the possibility of a no-deal departure from the EU. In an update to doctors, Prof Russell Viner, the president of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, said he had been “considerably reassured” by the Government’s preparations for such an outcome. Addressing more than 19,000 members, Prof Viner said that, contrary to many reports, there was no need to stockpile medicines and urged them to “dissuade patients from doing so.” [/perfectpullquote]

It never was believable. What would be interesting would be to track down those who propagated the lie so that we can punish them. But then that would mean pretty much the entire governing class, wouldn’t it?

  • It's outrageous to suggest that Druncker would drink beer. Only the finest first-growth clarets for our glorious leader!

  • I have my normal stock of Rennies in my kitchen. If there really is a blockade, I have a spare sheet of plasterboard as well. ;)
