When he opened fire on them, they were, indeed, colleagues. Shortly afterwards, several of them were ex. So the original description seems to me to be accurate....
This shooting (as so often is the case), took place in a gun free zone. Violating a gun free zone (other than a school) is a misdemeanor.
I am always amazed by the blind optimism of gun controllers who believe that a loon - determined to commit multiple murders - will be deterred by the thought of committing an additional misdemeanor.
On a side note, having witnessed the incompetence of municipal employees, I am amazed that this fellow managed to kill 11 people.
