AOC Has Lost Her Mind Over Poverty

I’m assuming that she’s been accurately quoted here and if she has been then she’s lost her mind:

Elsewhere we’re told that this is her evaluation of what the individual poverty line should be, that $38,000 a year.

Which is interesting really. The median income for the country appears to be $31,000 or so. So poverty is now to be a higher sum than the average income level for the country? And presumably we’ve also all got to work to abolish poverty through redistribution – which is going to be tough unless we’re in Lake Wobegon, isn’t it?

  • What one should expect from an Overage College Student..who runs her life on pure emotion...always on someone's else's Money..or course since she spent some time working as a bartender, getting paid in cash and probably not paying taxes...she doesn't care about spending others people's money

  • To AOC poverty is subjective [it always was - Adam Smith quotes the linen shirt standard] and to someone as rich as her (salary $174k) the thought of restricting her spending to the median income is unacceptable. Maybe she would swiftly become destitute if her income was only 20-odd% above the median and she continued to spend at her normal rate.
As an upper-middle-class (retired) married white male I can manage to live in (what I think of as) comfort on slightly less, after taxes and GiftAid donations, than $38k, but then I went to Public School (albeit not as tough as Gordonstoun) so she might regard me as being on the verge of destitution as I haven't bought a new suit in years.

  • This nation of "destitution" (with the median citizen needing federal help) is not the one I live in (nor she, I imagine). But it is a compelling narrative. And, dittoes to Esteban, compelling narratives win elections, not correct facts.

  • On the other hand, she is very keen on importing more poor people. Presumably she doesn't think the USA has enough?
