AeroMexico has indulged itself in a magnificent piece of trolling in an ad campaign – those taking flights can get a discount according to the percentage of their DNA that is Mexican. This isn’t quite a concept that works as there is no real useful definition of what is Mexican DNA.
We’re pretty good at determining Amerind DNA from European of course, even Spanish from other European – Iberian actually but still. But we’re not all that good at distinguishing from which side of the current – or past – borders Amerind or Iberian DNA come from so a distinction between Mexican and, say, Costa Rican or an Hispanic/Amerind mix from Oregon (yes, undoubtedly exists without a Mexican intervention) isn’t going to be easy, to say the least.
Still, magnificent trolling:
We can add a further level of amusement. Which is that if this existed in reality it would be illegal. Would be sued out of existence so fast – discrimination on the basis or race or former nationality being illegal and perhaps rightly so these days.
