Parliament Will Burn Like Notre Dame Only If We Have Something To Do With It

We are warned today that the Houses of Parliament could go up in flames, burn to the ground, as Notre Dame did. To which the correct response is only if we get to have something to do with it matey. For viewing the politicians’ treatment of the clearly expressed will of the people over Brexit does indeed lead to the thought that the place needs a damn good scouring with flames.

Yes, ever such a little bit intemperate but then rhetorical passions and all that:

Palace of Westminster caught fire 40 times between 2008 and 2012[/perfectpullquote]

Or perhaps there is no problem there. If the place tried to kill them all 40 times already and didn’t succeed then presumably God’s reserving the hellfire for that next life:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] After the tragic blaze at the 850-year-old cathedral in Paris last night, Jeremy Corbyn said Westminster was at risk of a “huge” fire. Politicians have admitted serious work needs to be done to protect the historic building, but have spent years bickering over the best way to do it. The Labour boss said today the Notre Dame fire was “very, very sad” and praised the firefighters for tackling it. He added: “The state of the building is very poor in Westminster and a fire risk is obviously huge with a building that has so much wood within it.” And top Labour MP Chris Bryant said MPs had already taken “far too long” putting in place our own fire safety measures. Parts of our beautiful Parliament were as old as the historic French building and must be protected, he warned. [/perfectpullquote]

It’s also worth noting that the Notre Dame fire harmed absolutely no one in it which wouldn’t be the point of Parliament being turned into smokey rubble.

The actual and real statement behind all of this is as follows:

“We know that Parliament needs some £4 billion spent upon it. We want that to be spent because we’re politicians we are, very much the Big I Ams. We’ve also that pipsqueak of a thought that we’d be strung from the lampposts on Westminster Bridge by the citizenry who have to pay for our aggrandisement if we don’t massage this carefully. Therefore and thus every piece of damage to an historic building elsewhere will be used as a justification of the righteousness of skinning the taxpayers to boost our egos.”

Somehow that speaking of the truth would be more acceptable. Not going to stop the rest of us thinking that Guy Fawkes was the only man to enter Parliament with honourable intentions but still…
