The New Lion King Trailer – What, You Didn’t Know Disney Remade It Already?

Have to admit that I’m not entirely and wholly sure about this. As with the recent remake of Dumbo Disney is remaking most to all of its animation classics as “live action” films. Obviously, much of that live bit is CGI but still. Some of it might work but somehow I’m not sure about how cute they’ll be able to make that warthog:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] The new movie, made with computer-generated imagery, follows the plot of the Oscar winning 1994 animation about lion cub Simba, who flees his kingdom after his villainous uncle Scar connives to take his father Mufasa’s place as king. It boasts a voice cast that includes music star Beyonce and actors Donald Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Seth Rogen and James Earl Jones, who voiced Mufasa in the 1994 version. [/perfectpullquote]

And the music is using the big hits from the earlier movie but not all of it:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]On November 28, 2017, it was reported that Elton John had signed onto the project to rework his musical compositions from the original film before his retirement. The following day it was reported that Beyoncé would be assisting John in the reworking of the soundtrack. On February 9, 2018, John reported that he, Tim Rice and Beyoncé would create a new song for the end credits of the film. Later that month, it was announced that four songs from the original film would be included: “Circle of Life”, “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King”, “Hakuna Matata”, and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”, the latter being performed by Beyoncé, Glover, Rogen, and Eichner. On February 3, 2019, Skyler Shuler of The DisInsider reported that “Be Prepared” would be featured in the film as well.[/perfectpullquote]

As to the background here obviously someone decided that what could formerly only be done by traditional animation could now be done by CGI. So, let’s do it all again this new way. Why not, we know the storylines work, right?
