From Freddie Starr’s obituary:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]Three years later, now solo, he appeared in the Royal Variety Show, giving a hilarious impression of Mick Jagger that brought the house down; he claimed that afterwards the Queen Mother told him: “You have done a good job.”[/perfectpullquote]

It is a good job too:

And as I hadn’t known:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]By the age of 20 Starr was appearing with the Beatles and other Liverpool bands in the appropriately named Star Club on the Reeperbahn in Hamburg. It was, he said, “a sexual wonderland”, which he fully exploited. He also accompanied Horst Fascher, the club’s second-in-command, on his rounds of prostitution, drug dealing and protection rackets, and struck up a friendship with John Lennon. Later, when the pair owned mansions in Berkshire, they would eat cold baked beans from the tin together while reminiscing about the old days.[/perfectpullquote]
