  • However good the memory, however good the music, nostalgia inculcates melancholy, it reminds us that tempus fugit and that Chronos is a thief. Song can gladden and sadden the heart simultaneously.

    • Which probably explains why I can’t listen to music from my teenage years without welling up. If ‘Caroline, no’ or ‘California Dreaming’ starts up I have to leave the room so I don’t embarrass myself.
