Gove’s Rapid Response Unit On Brexit

This should be easy enough, Michael Gove is setting up a rapid response unit to counter the lies and falsehoods being spread about a no deal Brexit:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] Michael Gove will launch a new ‘rapid rebuttal unit’ at the heart of Government on Monday to provide instant responses to “media myths and half-truths” about the risks of a no-deal Brexit. The new Response Unit will be run by civil servants in the Cabinet Office and will ensure that “the public and businesses are not being alarmed by scare stories or falsehoods “, The Sunday Telegraph can disclose. Senior Government figures are known to have become frustrated over the anti-no deal stories aired by the BBC in recent days, notably one about cows being slaughtered in Northern Ireland after a no deal exit. Given that most of the stories feeding Project Fear actually originate within government it really is one of the more simple things to cease, isn’t it? If you’re in charge of the government of course.

I will admit to the tiniest moue of surprise here. For I, along with the usual colleagues, am one of the sources of the debunkings of these sorts of stories. Running out of bacon, medicines, us having to charge tariffs on imports, all that sorta stuff. What fightback there has been has been done by us out here. And none of us have been approached to aid in this task as yet……

Even those of us who have had more formal experience, say, running a rapid response unit in the middle of an election period…..countering the political lies.

  • Just yesterday I was shooting down posts from about a quarter of my Facebook contacts "stating" that WTO rules would force tariffs of 35% on various goods.

I wonder what would happen after Brexit if people were complaining "why isn't there 35% tariffs on butter?" and the government kept replying "we're not allowed to put 35% tariffs on butter". Hey! You said you were taking back control, why don't you have the control to put 35% tariffs on butter!?!?!?
