This Isn’t Exactly The Most Feminist Claim Ever From Kara Swisher

In fact, I think it would be fairly easy to come up with a statement or three that were rather more feminist:

But the attack on Ms. Powell Jobs was craven even by Mr. Trump’s standards for its plainly sexist effort to diminish her by raising the specter of her husband, the Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, being displeased with how she was using his enormous fortune. This, even though Mr. Jobs has been dead since 2011, and the money was also always hers, since the pair had been married 20 years.

The concept of sharing marital wealth is something the prenup-signing Mr. Trump cannot conceive of. With his outburst, you could almost hear the inside of his head clanging madly at the very idea of a woman with the motivation and moxie, as well as the intelligence, doing whatever she wants with her own huge pile of money.

Better not tell Mr. Trump then that there are two even wealthier women from the world of tech — Mackenzie Scott, who recently divorced from the Amazon chief executive Jeff Bezos, and Melinda Gates, who is married to the Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates — who are also having a significant influence on this nation with efforts the president surely doesn’t like. Worse for him, they will continue to profoundly reshape society in the years to come.

I think it fair to note that the three men named did not become rich as a result of the women they married. Even if we are to attribute some influence from them and all that Jobs, Gates and Bezos might have done as well as they did as a result of the guidance and care from their loving families but they weren’t the decisive factors. At least two of them were fabulously rich before they married…….

I think it’s also fair to note that the three women named might well have done well in our society. There’s a certain shortage of people who think that any of them, not married to whom they did marry, would have become decabillionaires.

Thus I’d take Ms. Swisher’s claim to be less than exotically feminist, using as she does the examples of three fabulously wealthy and society altering women all of whom gained their money by marrying it.

For an extra added bonus, Ms. Swisher was married, for some years, to an early joining Google exec who became a corporate VP. Some decent stock options there in a joint property state….jus’ sayin’.
