Of Course Children Are Most At Risk Of Stabbings On Way Home From School

This finding should be filed under the “Well, what did you expect?” heading – that schoolchildren are most at risk of being stabbed on their way home from school. For when is it that children are on the streets in any great quantity?

Children more at risk of being stabbed on the way home from school
Among children, there were more stabbings between 4pm and 6pm, while young adults were more likely to be stabbed after midnight.

Well, yes, and? Not and as in so what, but and as in, yes, that’s obvious:

The period immediately after classes end accounts for a large proportion of stabbings involving young victims, and these predominantly occur close to home and school, according to new research published in the journal BMJ Open.

We can see that, yes.

Researchers examining medical data found a significant increase in knife attacks on victims aged under 16 within about three miles of school or home in the two hours after the final school bell.

Quite obviously. Why is anyone reporting this?

As to the geography, recall that state schools work on catchment areas. Thus most children go to school near home – usually, less than 3 miles away. So, obviously enough, whatever does happen to children is likely to be near school and or home.

Do also note that this isn’t about the number of stabbings. It’s about the portion of them that happen in certain time slots. Sure, even one child murder by knife is one too many, but that’s not the point at issue here.

Now think about when children are out in public in any great numbers. It’s not during school hours, they’re in school. It’s not at night, they’re asleep. Many will be in in the evening, the internet, computer games, some of them even TV. So, the only two times they’ll be out there in volume as a possible target is going to or coming back from school.

Anyone ever raised children? Then you’ll know, as does everyone else who has done so, that there’s no spare time in the morning. No dawdling, no chats with friends that lead to rumbles, just a heads down and try to get there in that femtosecond between head rising from pillow and detention from missing roll call.

So, when’s the only time significant numbers of children are out there to be stabbed? On the way home from school.

And we need a research paper to tell us this? From actual scientists and all that? That we have to pay the wages of?
