The EU Demands More On Facebook’s Censorship Efforts

This was always the way it was going to go, this battle against fake news. What is fake is going to be decided by those who currently hold power – fake being whatever is inconvenient to those holding said power. Once that is understood everything the European Union is saying about Facebook makes sense:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]Facebook withholding data on its anti-disinformation efforts, EU says
Commissioners demand hard numbers from firm ahead of European parliament elections[/perfectpullquote]

We can tell how this goes, can’t we? How many people saying “I don’t like the EU very much” have been banned from the platform? Why was anyone allowed to say “Juncker’s Drunker”? Cracks about “one of the EU Presidents” bring the offices into disrepute.

Think I’m joking? It is actually an offence in parts of Europe to insult a public servant. A criminal offence that is.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]Under the EU code, the web firms are encouraged to disrupt revenue for accounts and sites misrepresenting information, clamp down on fake accounts and bots, and give prominence to more reliable sources of news while improving the transparency of funding of political advertising.[/perfectpullquote]

Reliable sources – those that agree with the establishment. It’s censorship and don’t forget that it is.
