Facebook Bans Elizabeth Warren’s Ads Calling For Facebook To Be Broken Up

Pocahontas is shrieking at how Facebook has conspired to do her down. The truth being that Elizabeth Warren – or her team – appears to be too incompetent to read Facebook’s terms of service. This from the woman who claims that she, and she alone, is competent to regulate Facebook and all the other tech giants:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]Facebook has backtracked after removing a series of ads posted by US Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren that called for the company to be broken up.[/perfectpullquote]

See, see, they’re censoring me! claims the former law professor and would be economic dictator. Reality being somewhat different:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] The idea that Facebook might be censoring political speech contrary to its interests proved irresistible to many Facebook critics, but the company said there was a much more mundane explanation. “We removed the ads because they violated our policies against use of our corporate logo,” a spokesperson told Politico. “In the interest of allowing robust debate, we are restoring the ads.” Facebook’s policies limit the extent to which advertisers can reference Facebook or Instagram in the text or imagery. Whether Facebook’s brief censorship “shut down a debate” is questionable: numerous other Warren advertisements with a similar anti-tech message remained active during the brief block. We around here have run into the same problem. We can – and do – use the Facebook name, logo and so on in posts here. Sometimes we aren’t able to post said pieces to Facebook itself because the use of that name, that logo, breaches Facebook’s terms and conditions.

Shrug, their gaff, their rules, right?

Warren is amusing here of course. Her claim is that Facebook must be regulated more. At the same time as she shows incompetence at discerning what the current regulation of Facebook is. If such a less attractive version of Hillary Clinton could actually get elected President – somehow reminding everyone of their first mother in law is unlikely to achieve the required plurality – it would be scary.
