Shock, Horror, Trump Inaugural Donations Were 0.075% Illegal!

The hunt for a smoking gun to show that Trump – and all those rubes in Flyover Country who voted for him – can be dismissed continues. The latest Shock, Horror, finding from The Guardian being that three donations of $25,000 each to the Inaugural Committee were potentially illegal, coming as they did from foreigners who weren’t allowed to so donate.

For those not up with how this works, the Inaugural Committee organises the jamboree for the new presidency. The party – it’s not about the election, it’s not about votes, all that’s already entirely done with. Foreigners, foreigners who don’t have US residency and aren’t tax resident, aren’t allowed to donate. So, what is it that The Guardian has found?

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] Donald Trump’s inauguration received tens of thousands of dollars from shell companies that masked the involvement of a foreign contributor or others with foreign ties. The Guardian has identified the creators of three obscure firms that contributed money to Trump’s inaugural committee, which collected a record $107m as he entered the White House in 2017. The three companies each gave $25,000 to Trump’s inaugural fund. At least one of the contributions was made for a foreign national who appears ineligible to make political donations in the US. [/perfectpullquote]

Yes, they’ve found that $75,000 of that $107 million was – potentially, as they’ve not entirely proven that all of it was illegal – illegally donated by foreigners.

Quite. It’s a horror, a real terror of the ages this. 0.075% or so of the money collected so that Trump’s supporters can revel in Hail to the Chief being played could have been illegally donated. Undoubtedly we’ll have to run the whole election thing again.

Just for the avoidance of any confusion here can anyone name anything at all that government does which is accurate to within 0.1%? We know, absolutely, that we don’t count inflation that accurately, therefore nor the size of the economy. Actually, in the usual economic statistics we don’t even consider anything less than 0.1% – to do so is to be ridiculous.

The point of all of this is what? Other than the obvious, Orange Man Bad!
