The Danish Far Right Populists Won The Election

Sure,m the Danish far right populists have lost votes and seats in the election there but they still won. On he same basis that Ukip won in the UK without ever getting anywhere near to any sort of political power. Simply by making damn sure that the desired policy is the one that was enacted.

Ukip did this by continually making the case that we shouldn’t be in the European Union. So, we had a vote, we’re going to stop being in the European Union. That’s winning. So too in Denmark:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] Denmark’s hard-right populists suffered an electoral collapse last night as their voters were seduced away by the two main centrist parties. The Danish People’s party (DF), which came second in the last general election, lost more than half its MPs yesterday in a vote dominated by climate change and the tough anti-immigration rhetoric espoused by the leader of the left-wing opposition. Sure, that’s losing votes and seats, it’s still winning:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]Ms Frederiksen, 41, has neutralised the appeal of the populist right by calling for a cap on immigration from outside Europe and demanding that failed asylum seekers be deported en masse to North Africa. She also supported the government’s ban on the veil and persuaded her party to abstain on legislation paving the way for the migrant prison on Lindholm island, the site of a defunct research centre into contagious livestock diseases.[/perfectpullquote]

The desired policies are being enacted. Who could possibly argue that this wasn’t a political win?

  • Me.

Unless the new policies are being enacted by credible faces who intend to deliver, those policies will be frustrated by the civil service and traitor politicians. Denmark just had its 2015 election.

    We watch with interest.
