Good old Barry Gardiner has taken it in the knackers from a furious Welshman on LBC today, on the subject of a second referendum, and he mewled the tired old “No-one knew what they were voting for” line.
Apparently back in June 2016 there was insufficient information on the ballot paper for Barry – he feels that voters simply could not have made an informed judgement from the meagre amount of information therein about what Leave and Remain stood for.
Which is weird, because I distinctly remember some complaints about a bus, and I don’t remember a massive red 48-seat Routemaster being on the ballot paper. Where on earth did voters get this £350m a week figure from, when it wasn’t on the ballot paper?
Barry?
Surely this begs the question of how people in Brent North can vote for Barry next week, when all it will say on the ballot paper is….
“Barry Gardiner – The Labour Party Candidate”
How on earth will they know what Barry is all about, with such a paucity of information from which to draw?
I mean, you can’t vote for a man just because he is called Barry.
Or even Barry Gardiner.
No matter – I’m sure that (if elected) Barry will campaign day and night for a recall in his constituency, so that a second vote can be held.
With only a Tory and a Brexit Party candidate on the ballot paper.
The good people of Brent North will surely be grateful.

It really is a lovely sight to see, condescending politician taken down a peg of two.
The bit where Barry says remain is right wing only to have it thrown back is great, ‘you calling me right wing Barry?, I’ve voted labour my entire life and you call me right wing....’
And hes only able to make that claim because the EU is at least somewhat Left-wing! But Leaving still means we can elect a Left wing government if we choose, who can then enact anything they like. This line of argument is simply the Left complaining that they will lose the benefits of an unelected, unaccountable Left wing EU.
EU membership has never been (solely, or even primarily) a left-right issue. Think of Tony Benn - a man with whom I would have agreed about almost nothing, but who saw through the fiction of the EEC.
That would be Comical Barry as I’ve taken to calling him on Twitter.
"Gardiner" suggests to me a Barrow. Barry Barrow has a fine ring to it.
Perhaps if Remain had spent more time explaining the benefits of staying in and less time on absurd scaremongering more people might have voted Remain?
But Remain chose what to say. To now whine that people didn't know what they were voting for as if Remain has nothing to do with that supposed lack of knowledge is ridiculous.
