Yes, yes, we all know that diversity is the mantra of our age, the value above which nothing can be placed. It’s still entirely possible for people to misunderstand matters though, as here:
The head of the Lake District National Park Authority in Cumbria says the rugged landscape excludes too many people and must change to attract a more diverse mix of visitors.
The entire point of heritage sites and national parks is that things must not be changed. They are to remain as they were. That’s why we have the rules shouting that people may not build in them, may not change the way they do things.
To demand that the Lake District changes is like insisting that Bath get rid of all that Georgian rubbish, the Barrier Reef clear all that coral out the way of the water skiers.
Sheesh, can’t people grasp the most basic ideas?

What it needs are ramps up to the high bits and non-gender specific toilets installing so that the 1 disabled tranny who visits ever 10 years can see the view.
It would be interesting to hear about the changes that are envisaged to attract more gays, more Blacks, Pakistanis, Indians, women, transgender... etc.... as this is what ‘diversity’ means.
On the other hand, just ban white, male heterosexuals.
When I go to such places, it is to get away from people, no matter how diverse they are...
Odd, I didn't notice the security barriers on the way in to exclude people last time I visited.
Step 1: import lots of people who are as different from the locals as possible
Step 2: complain that the imports don't like the same things.
Step 3: try to get the new people with different ideas to like the same things as the locals -- without being different
They really are morons.
You can't force people, kicking and screaming, to go somewhere they don't want to.
ok, maybe I get the thing about access for disabilities and walkers feeling intimidated by 4x4s, but for goodness sake where does the racist angle come in? I'm gay, and I don't feel excluded cos they havnt painted the mountains ffs. Mad. Just mad.
Last time I visited the Lake District, I didn't see any ginger-haired people. What are they doing to adress this?
Just a bit strange to think that minorities are somehow different when it comes to enjoying nature, the outdoors, beautiful views and peace and quiet. I' ve never observed any form of discrimination against any group among the thousands of tourists who visit and cannot imagine why there would be any. National parks have individual identities. Each will appeal to slightly different visitors. We also have adventure parks/ theme parks for people who enjoy man-easterbrook rides etc.
Man made rides, I intended to type above.
