So, don’t these women have agency now?

From our Swindon Correspondent:

From the Times
The Home Office and the Department of Health have vowed to tackle the “harmful practice” of “virginity repair” surgery and the “deeply regressive” attitudes that drive women to have it done.
Up to a certain point, we’ve decided that a woman can have an abortion, because it’s her body and she can choose what to do with it, so if a woman wants to have a bit of flesh added to her body, rather than removed, why not? What’s the difference?

  • What makes you think the women having this done are freely choosing to have this done?

If you're not sure, try and think which "community" highly prizes female virginity at marriage, and the agency which said community allows its women.

      • Since the Sunday Times claims this is popular among Muslim women, I suppose their families are forcing them to marry.

        • so, deal with that! Forced marriage is both morally wrong, and a crime. Other than the fact that this is symptom, we should be stopping forced marriage for its own sake.

If it's the case that it's due to forced marriage, what is this law change going to do, other than have women fly over to some other part of the world to get a fake hymen?

      • Formally and officially? No.

Of course, saying so will piss off your family + clan, the future in-laws +clan, and all the other tut-tutters that care to toss in their 5 cents.
Imagine a woman so ingrateful to her family who have done so much to arrange the Right Husband for her, etc. etc... The "Honour" of both families would suffer, and guess who cops it for that?

It takes a lady of iron conviction and fleet feet to withstand that...

        • OK. So, if she's going along with it, that means after this that she has to be a virgin (and hope she has an intact hymen). No teenage shagging for her.

          • What we really need is a system which allows fathers to sue their daughters for wantonly reducing their marriage value. The more pandering to medieval world views the better!

  • Stuff women do that we agree with is women having choice, stuff women do that we disagree is the Patriarchy. Obvs.

    • It's delightful when the Left struggles with the inherent contradictions in its grab-bag manifesto, here the conflict between Women's Liberation and pandering to Islam.

Did you know, in America the Left is trying to get its captive black vote to warm up to a candidate who poses on stage with "his husband"?

  • "What’s the difference?"

    The reasons for doing it...

"... so if a woman wants to have a bit of flesh added to her body... "

... because I'm not sure the women are doing the choosing.
