It's a slow weekend at the box office so it manages to do well in the rankings but that's the only place it does: A joyous family reunion turns into a hilarious nightmare as Madea and the crew travel to backwoods Georgia and unexpectedly plan a funeral, which threatens to reveal sordid family secrets. A mere 25% on the tomatometer - ouch. Not that this is all that much of a surprise: If Tyler Perry's A Madea Family Funeral is really the final big-screen adventure for Perry's iconic alter-ego, then at least she's going out with a bang. The Lionsgate release, also apparently the last Tyler Perry Production to come from Lionsgate (he released Nobody's Fool via Paramount/Viacom), earned a solid $9.2 million last night to top the Friday box office. That positions the family melodrama/comedy for yet another $23m-$25m debut frame. For the last 14 years, Perry's Madea adventures have generally opened with between $21 million and $25m and ended up with between $50m and $65m. Solid workman like stuff perhaps but maybe not much more than that: A joyous family reunion becomes a hilarious nightmare as Madea and the crew travel to backwoods Georgia, where they find themselves unexpectedly planning a funeral that might unveil unsavory family secrets. How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World The third movie in the franchise the plot roughly enough runs as: Now chief and ruler of Berk alongside Astrid, Hiccup has created a gloriously chaotic dragon utopia. When the sudden appearance of female Light Fury coincides with the darkest threat their village has ever faced, Hiccup and Toothless must leave the only home they've known and journey to a hidden world thought only to exist in myth. As their true destines are revealed, dragon and rider will fight together-to the very ends of the Earth-to protect everything they've grown to treasure. Alita: Battle Angel Scoring a very not respectable 59% on the tomatometer Alita's plot is: From visionary filmmakers James Cameron (AVATAR) and Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY), comes ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, an epic adventure of hope and empowerment. When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past - she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she's grown to love. Greta isn't something either by or about Garbo. Instead it's Chloe Moritz and Isabelle Huppert in a bonkers B Movie: A bonkers B movie occasionally elevated by its A-list talent, Greta dives headlong into camp and struggles to stay afloat. It scores 58% of the tomatometer. A less biased plot synopsis: A young woman befriends a lonely widow who's harboring a dark and deadly agenda towards her. Isn't It Romantic Starting out as a spoof of Rom Coms it becomes, yes, a Rom Com. New York City architect Natalie works hard to get noticed at her job but is more likely to be asked to deliver coffee and bagels than to design the city's next skyscraper. And if things weren't bad enough, Natalie, a lifelong cynic when it comes to love, has an encounter with a mugger that renders her unconscious, waking to discover that her life has suddenly become her worst nightmare -- a romantic comedy -- and she is the leading lady.
