Foolish Demand For Vegetarian McDonald’s – Just Eat Elsewhere, Silly

The modern world isn’t exactly short of people and places happy to take your money in return for items more or less comestible. Which is what makes this petition for McDonald’s to add a vegetarian burger to its menu so silly, even odd. You don’t want to eat ground what is euphemistically called beef? Then don’t go to McDonald’s. Go gather with the other whey faced around the corner for your ground kale.

Although the petition does not specify which kind of veggie burger activists would like, it comes on the heels of an announcement from Burger King that the chain is testing a plant-based Impossible Burger patty for its Whopper (calling it the “Impossible Whopper”). “I’m hoping to bring a positive change to America with a mainstream meatless option at McDonald’s!” wrote Kathy Freston, author of the petition and a vegetarian activist. “Healthy living should be about progress, not perfection, and this is an easy step that McDonald’s could be taking.” [/perfectpullquote]

McDonald’s isn’t there to provide a healthy living for you or anyone else. It’s there to make money for its shareholders. The diet options for you are dependent upon your choices, not their. You want grilled chickpea then you go have grilled chickpea by all means. But your desire for whatever isn’t the justification for an insistence that one individual, or even one organisation, must provide it to you.
