Your Cat’s Not Stupid Nor Deaf , It Doesn’t Care – Scientific Proof

That when you call a cat it simply doesn’t arrive, when you call a dog it does, is entirely true. This could be because cats are deaf, because they’re stupid even. In fact, it turns out that they just don’t care. You and your desires aren’t enough to get it to move. And yes, we do think that it knows its name, that it recognises being called. That it doesn’t then come is a result of its disdain, nothing else:

So, that explains that and who could argue with the newspaper?

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] If your cat does not respond when you call, it is not because it does not recognise its name. It is because it does not respect you and instead views your life with, at best, cold indifference. That is one conclusion of a paper that has found cats, like dogs, are perfectly capable of understanding their names. The difference is that unlike dogs, who come running in response, cats just do not think you worthy of their attention. [/perfectpullquote]

No, it’s real science here. It’s not that they’re stupid, or that they hate you. Cats just don’t care enough about you.

  • Cats are fascinatingly, but decidedly, odd creatures. I had one that wouldn’t respond to its name - just giving me an imperious “who do you think you are, trying to summon my presence?” look, but would come running from the back of the garden to me sitting in the lounge if I opened a packet of cheesy Wotsits when the patio doors were open. Had to be Wotsits, though - other crunchy comestibles were ignored. Another cat I had would also not respond to her name, but would come running from a distance if I rubbed my index finger and thumb together. As I say, odd.

    • "I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals. "
      Winston Churchill

Dogs think: “These people feed me, provide for me, give me shelter, and love me. They must be God!”

  • Dogs are pack animals, and conditioned to respond to the leader of the pack when he calls.

Cats are individual predators. Their attitude to any other animal is to eat it if it is small enough, run away if it is dangerous, or, if the circumstances are right, mate with it.
