Guy Verhofstadt is one of the more vile beasts thrown up by this odd system of governance we call the European Union. He’s actually one of the great reasons – even a Great Justification – for Brexit. Why should we in our green and pleasant land, this sceptered and silver girt isle, be ruled by such a creature? Yet this is what does happen, someone we cannot vote for, more importantly cannot vote against, has power over us and ours. This is a system that needs to be overturned.
When people talk of such juddering changes in governance they refer to revolutions, to tumbrils taking the ancien regime to the guillotine. The question always is though, who’s in the farm cart? Whose hair will be knitted?

As to the revolutionary bit it’s actually Verhofstadt that is the one, isn’t it? That a Belgian aids in ruling Britain is indeed a revolutionary idea and it would be more accurate to call Boris and Jacob those who would restore the ancient liberties. You know, just as the French came to their senses eventually and had Louis XVIII.
Worth recalling how that Revolution thing did work out, it was the revolutionaries, the Dantons, the Robespierres, who ended up on the guillotine. Verhofstadt is 65 so we’d better get a move on, eh?

As of the referendum, the four fathers of Brexit, the people who did more than anybody else to convince enough British people to vote leave, were Nigel Farage, Jea -Claude Juncker, Martin Schulz and … Guy Verhofstadt. We’ve all grateful forgotten Schultz, but Verhofstadt is still up there every week or two with a strong reminder of some significant benefits of leaving. The lack of self-awareness is impressive.
