An interesting report on the London Fire Brigade. Which insists that it is not underfunded, it’s just that the management is more than a bit shit.
Of course, we all know that’s true of all of the British bureaucracies but it’s nice to see it admitted even the once:
London fire brigade one of the worst in UK, inspectors say
OK.
The London fire brigade (LFB) is one of the worst in the country, according to inspectors who found that two and a half years after the Grenfell Tower disaster, incident commanders remain inadequately trained, the service is wasting resources and it is failing to learn from its mistakes.
Note the wasting resources bit.
It is well resourced
See?
That is, they’re pissing your and my money away and killing people in the process. When do we get to be medieval on the politicians and bureaucrats that have been doing this?
Do the firemen still consider it to be their second job? Instead of sitting around doing nothing (but being paid) at the station, why not go off and do a bit of painting & decorating to occupy yourself?
I don’t think it’s that bad! They do actually stick around while they are on shift, but they get so much rest while on shift that a second job is perfectly doable.
One of the reasons that the Health and Safety at Work Act has resulted in fewer deaths and accidents on building sites is that managers, all the way up to the top, can be prosecuted for safety failures. It concentrates the mind, so to speak.
What scrutiny is given to the Fire Service, Ambulance service etc. I can’t recall any bosses being prosecuted (where appropriate).
