Wow! I didn't know passenger jets could do Vertical Take-off and Landing. :)
"Eeek!"
Not at all, the good pilot doesn't fight wind but goes with it and uses "a special manoeuvre" to arrive where he wants and land safely
Anyone who's done a lot of off-road or snow/ice driving/motor-biking learns this "don't fight" rule
@Tim
Did you ever fly to Madeira pre the new extended runway?
somewhat extreme for a cross wind but speaks volumes for the quality of the undercarriage design. I wonder if he did not go around because the computers would not let him so pilot had to keep trying.
PPRUNE has a good knowledgeable discussion of this landing. Telephoto lenses distort distance and speed. Outside the cockpit, observers do not know what winds and directions the pilot was dealing with.
