One of the great modern sins is colonialism. So much so that all of we who live in places which did it in the past are still contaminated with that guilt. That’s why we should simply ship all the wealth we’ve generated here off to those who haven’t bothered to generate any over there.
Colonialism itself being of course that we went off and told people different from us – perhaps a little darker, often of a different religious persuasion – how they should live their lives. According to our mores, our insistences, of how they should live their lives. That being the great crime that is being complained about, that we imposed our culture and values on those duskier others.
[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] Brunei has written to the European parliament defending its decision to start imposing death by stoning as a punishment for gay sex, claiming convictions will be rare as it requires two men of “high moral standing and piety” to be witnesses. In a four-page letter to MEPs, the kingdom’s mission to the EU called for “tolerance, respect and understanding” with regard to the country’s desire to preserve its traditional values and “family lineage”. The new penal code, which also provides for the amputation of thieves and whipping of people wearing clothes associated with the opposite sex, was brought in on 3 April, despite international condemnation. [/perfectpullquote]No, I don’t agree with whipping transvestites. Nor any punishment for consenting adults who get their jollies in manners that I don’t myself. Nor does our culture these days, which is all for the better about our culture.
But, but. Our insistence that Brunei must follow our cultural mores, it is, well, no, really, it is all a bit colonial, isn’t it? The duskier must live as good white Europeans insist?
I can’t miss the irony, that the more depraved the West is in its moral illiteracy, the more ‘lesser nations’ hold to some articulated morals, however regressive. Playing Whac-A-Mole with Providence, is an idiot’s game.
When is Greece going to pay compensation for colonising southern Italy, Sicilly and Sardinia in the 6th Century BC?
It’s only neo-colonialism if it’s something the Right approve of. The Left is morally perfect, so anything the Left want to do must be morally correct. Anything they don’t want to do must therefore be morally incorrect, or somewhere between wrong and evil. It is the persistent delusion of people on the Left that they are morally perfect that allows them to keep on saying “but this time it will be different” which means “but this time we will be the ones running stuff.”
