Spain’s Election Didn’t Solve The 600 Year Long Argument

Not all that much of a surprise to be honest, that a single election, or even four in four years, didn’t solve an argument that’s been running 600 years and more. The point to recall about Spanish politics being that there’s another axis running through it beyond left and right. Beyond the usual conservative/classical liberal divide, the modern normal of the social democratic left and the hippies into woo.

That’s whether there should be a Spain at all.…

There’s Dumb, There’s Stupid, Then There’s Complaining To The Police About Contract Murder Fraud

This is something of a giggle. A mother and daughter have been arrested in Spain over claims that they organised a contract murder. Not entirely unknown of course, people do get murdered, sometimes people are paid to do the murdering. Contract murders are known to exist.

The reason appears to be that the mother’s ex-inamorata was suspected of defrauding the extended family. For which, of course, he had to die. DIE! I tell ‘ee. The person hired to do the murdering was the daughter’s boyfriend.…

La Liga’s Clever But Illegal Method Of Checking People Pay For Football Matches

Isn’t this a clever – if illegal – use of the new technology over in Spain by La Liga? The problem to be solved being, well, there’s mass pirating of the football TV shows. This of course means less money for the players. So, how to use modern technology to find out whether people are watching an illegal pirate of the live match, or something that has been paid for? Bug their mobile phones, obviously:

Spain’s football league, La Liga, has been hit with a €250,000 (£222,000) fine for using fans’ mobile phones as spying tools to crack down on bars screening matches with pirated television signals.

Weird, Gender Equal Countries – Sweden – Have More Partner Violence Against Women Than Patriarchal Places Like Spain

The general assumption – well, we all assume it’s true because every damn feminist on the planet keeps telling us it’s true – that intimate partner violence is because of the inequalities of the patriarchy. Or capitalism for the really extreme explanations. If only we were a more equal society – economically and also in gender rights – then such violence would diminish to the point of entirely vanishing away.

As it turns out this isn’t true, not remotely so.…

The Difference Between Sex Trafficking And Sexual Exploitation

Sex trafficking, properly defined, is the repeated rape of an individual. This is monstrous and we should – and do – fight it wherever we can. Sexual exploitation is a phrase with a less certain meaning. For what is to exploit? A Marxist would say that any worker not gaining the full value of their labour is being exploited. A feminist – at least some of them – would say that any woman – they tend to forget the existence of male prostitution – selling sex is being exploited.…

Mother Loses Children For Working Too Hard – Matriarchy Or Patriarchy?

A case from Spain in which a court has awarded sole custody to the ex-husband rather than the mother. The argument being that she works too hard as a lawyer to be caring for the children sufficiently. This bringing into rather sharp focus the clash between career progression – something that requires dedicated hard work – and the needs of children for care.

It would, for example, be entirely unfair if a woman were to lose custody in a manner in which a man would not.…

Spanish PM Vows To Ban Prostitution – This Is How Politics Works, Folks

That we around here are against the banning or illegality of prostitution should be obvious. We’re liberals and thus rather in favour of the idea that consenting adults get to do as consenting adults wish. Sure, there might be all sorts of problems with prostitution – the underage, sexual slavery and so on. Yet is is also absolutely true that some fraction of men – a reasonable count being some 2 to 3% as regular behaviour – and some fraction of women are entirely happy with the legal options available to them.…

Seriously, Why Should Spain Apologise For Conquering Mexico?

A demand from the current President of Mexico that Spain – as well as the King and the Pope – should apologise for having conquered Mexico. To which the correct response is a hearty “What the heck are you on about Amigo?” For a number of different reasons.

The most obvious being that the people of Spain today aren’t whoever did whatever in the past. It’s thus not actually the responsibility of those alive now for what those long dead did.…

Brexit Delay Won’t Work Either – No Deal It Is On March 29 Then. Huzzah!

A point we’ve consistently been making around here is that Brexit – to be devoutly desired of course – currently means leaving, without a deal, on March 29. This year too. All of the work that’s been done by the federasts to insist upon a meaningful vote in Parliament, the necessity of a majority for whatever deal there is, has meant that without such a positive vote in favour of something then it’s reversion to the default.…

The Modern Definition Of Far Right Is Interesting, Isn’t It?

We’ll admit that we don’t know whether this Spanish political party, Vox, is far right or not. For all we know they could be donning blue shirts – or black footy bags – marching down the street and howling with lust to give Owen Jones a good dose of castor oil. We dunno. But what we do find interesting is what The Guardian tells us are markers of being far right.

We’d agree that, given that they’re centralists in Spain, they do belong on the more conservative side of politics on that specific issue.…
